Innovation With Pressure Control Intelligence Systems

Innovation With Pressure Control Intelligence SystemsMatt Green, Engineering Manager for Technology and Innovation, Weir Oil and Gas

Safety is a major concern across all industries. However, in the oil and gas space, ensuring the safety of personnel and protection of the environment is paramount. Reducing the number and severity of safety and environmental incidents allows operators to achieve greater personnel performance, improve operational efficiencies and lower overall costs. What results is higher profit, even at today’s lower energy prices.

We take our customers’ performance goals into consideration while ensuring operational safety

That’s why Weir is focused on providing intelligent systems monitoring and control solutions that ensure operators can more consistently achieve these goals. By improving operational behavior holistically through data, alarms and controls, we’re able to help operators optimize their production efficiencies, all while ensuring intended safety measures are effective.

Safety & Efficiency with Weir Pressure Control Intelligence Systems

To build the Weir Pressure Control Intelligent System platform, Weir employed both new and old practices. As an initial Pressure Control Intelligent System product, the Mathena™ Mud-Gas Separator Intelligence System (MGS-ISL) monitors and communicates the liquid mud level in real-time to prevent gas-carryover from kicks and prevent mud overflows to the vent system.

Additionally, faster drilling is also a key benefit with an active safety system in place as operators receive ongoing alerts with key operational insights throughout the drilling process. Furthermore, increasing safety limits of the control systems and the equipment also optimizes operations.

Building Synergy

We take our customers’ performance goals into consideration while ensuring operational safety. Through conversations with our customers, we develop insight into new possibilities to expand the system and solutions to meet their needs now and in the coming years as the industry evolves. Currently, clients are renting our products and are requesting additional sensors to help them continue to optimize their processes. Hence, our product development is defined by an incredible one-to-one relationship with our customers, enabling us to serve their needs while continuing to expand our capabilities.

Work Environment

Our people and partners are at the heart of Weir’s success. We build strong relationships with our technology partners and vendors to allow us to continuously innovate. With innovation as a cornerstone of our culture, our team takes great pride of ownership in the designs they create. Each team member knows they are making a difference in our customer’s operations.

Impact of Digitization

There is little doubt that digitization of the oil field has enabled the oil industry to become more data driven, utilizing volumes of real-time data to improve safety and efficiency like never before to boost operators’ bottomlines.

This influx of data enables us, as well as our customers, to evaluate the relationship between our equipment and other systems in the value chain. Looking forward, we expect this systematized advanced communication to continue to expand—and to increasingly rely on big data analytics—to help operators enhance their processes even more. It is an exciting time to be in the oil and gas industry.
